Self-evaluation

Overview

According to Chapter 1 (Developing Management Skills) of the 9th edition of the book, effective leadership is based on self-awareness and this self-understanding has five dimensions namely: emotional intelligence, values, cognitive style, orientation toward change, and core self-evaluation.

1. Feedback Seeking and Emotional Intelligence

I have also solicited feedback on my strengths and weaknesses actively, without any self-defense reflection of the information, which is in line with the prescribed pre- and post assessment cycle also. This openness contributes to the establishment of trusting relationships and improvement of my self-awareness.

3. Diversity and Change Friendliness

I am a lively person in terms of working in dynamic but unfixed environments where I demonstrate curiosity and adaptability attributes that translate into the cognitive style and orientation toward change dimensions.

2. Core Self-Evaluation

I demonstrate high self-esteem, internal locus of control, and emotional stability, which also coincides with the figuring of Whetten & Cameron who reveal that the core self-evaluation is positive and predicts the competence of managers.

4. Reflective Analytical Cognitive Style

I use both facts and instinct. This normalizes the cognitive style aspect such that I make balanced decisions in stressful situations.
